Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) Campaign in Balochistan: TRAC Report

TRAC WATCH the Weekly Analyst Review by TRAC Terrorism of 14 May 2026 has highlighted a series of attacks by the  Balochistan Republican Guards. These reports have been confirmed from other open sources.

The TRAC Weekly Review highlights a noticeable increase in operational tempo by the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) across multiple districts of Balochistan, underlining the group’s continued ability to disrupt both Pakistani security infrastructure and critical civilian services.

The Report goes on to indicate that between 7 and 12 May 2026 alone, BRG militants successfully targeted at least six electricity transmission towers through coordinated improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Sibi and Nasirabad districts. In Limji, Sibi, two towers were completely destroyed, while two additional structures were severely damaged.

Similar attacks followed in Mir Hassan near Dera Murad Jamali and later in the Mirwah area of Nasirabad, where towers supplying electricity from the Uch Power Plant to Quetta were brought down. The scale and frequency of these attacks within less than a week demonstrate not only sustained operational capability but also a deliberate campaign against strategic infrastructure.

Infrastructure Attacks

BRG’s targeting of electricity infrastructure reflects a broader separatist strategy aimed at undermining the state’s ability to provide essential services, creating economic disruption, and amplifying public pressure on the government. Electricity towers remain particularly attractive targets because they are difficult to secure across vast rural terrain while carrying both symbolic and practical value. The affected regions are strategically significant due to the convergence of major roads, rail networks, energy corridors, and gas infrastructure, making even localised attacks capable of generating broader economic and logistical consequences.

Attacks on Security Forces

At the same time, BRG also exerted direct pressure on Pakistani security forces. On 11 May, militants launched a grenade attack against a major Pakistani security forces camp in Sanni, Kachhi District, causing casualties and material damage. Earlier in the week, the group also attacked a Pakistani Rangers checkpoint in the Buskat area of Sohbatpur using small and heavy weapons. These incidents are significant because they show BRG is not solely focused on sabotage operations, but also retains the ability to strike fortified state positions. Main military camps and checkpoints are high-value targets due to their concentration of personnel, weapons, communications infrastructure, and symbolic importance to state authority.

Underestimating Baloch Insurgency

Together with other Baloch separatist organisations, particularly the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), groups such as BRG continue to represent an often underestimated but highly persistent security challenge for Pakistan. While international attention frequently focuses on jihadist militancy, the Baloch insurgency has steadily evolved into a long-term asymmetric threat capable of disrupting infrastructure, targeting security forces, and undermining state control across strategically critical parts of Balochistan. The recent cluster of attacks suggests BRG is currently operating with renewed momentum and attempting to stretch Pakistani security resources through simultaneous attacks on both infrastructure and military targets.
