Sri Lanka: UNHRC Resolution Dominates Discourse

Highlights             Passing of U.S. sponsored resolution asking Sri Lanka to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) relating to human rights at 19th meeting of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) at Geneva on February 22 has shocked Sri Lanka.  Twenty three members voted for the resolution while 15 voted against; eight members abstained. In particular, India’s vote in favour of the resolution caught Sri Lanka unaware; it has raised a number of questions on both sides of the Palk Strait.
