Sri Lanka to hold special tsunami drill under international supervision next month

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources and Disaster Management Palitha Range Bandara says the government has focused attention on promoting the opportunity to face disaster risks.

Speaking to media following a discussion with the ministry officials on Tuesday, the Minister said that a comprehensive program has been prepared to ready the public as well as the entire state machine to face the disaster situations.

The Minister further pointed out that compared to the past, disaster risk in Sri Lanka has risen. The island which was ranked at 98 in the past on the disaster risk scale has risen to 4th most disaster prone country. Therefore, Sri Lanka can be identified as a country that is severely affected by disasters,
