Sri Lanka President Extends Order for Armed Forces to maintain public order

Gazette Notification extends the one issued in November last year and is likely to continue till the parliamentary elections scheduled in the country in April are held.

A special gazette notification has been issued assigning Sri Lanka’s armed forces the task of maintaining public order in all 25 districts of the country. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an extraordinary gazette notification tasking all members of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force to maintain public order in the 25 districts of the country and the territorial water adjacent to the coastal districts effective from today (22).

The President has issued this special order in accordance with the powers vested upon the President by Section 12 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40). ......................
