Sri Lanka Political Toppling Game in 2017?

Sensing a degree of dissatisfaction amongst the people, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa threatened to bring down the government in 2017. Participating in a discussion with the Foreign Correspondents Association in Colombo, Kurunegala District Parliamentarian said his goal is to topple the current government in 2017 on 29 December as per a BBC Sandeshaya report, he said, "Even though the government has a two-third majority in parliament now, considering the current political situation, everything can be changed in the future." On being pointed out that he is not eligible to take over as the President, Rajapaksa reportedly said, "I can rule the country without becoming the head of the state". Rajapaksa continued to blame the machinations of Indian intelligence agency Research and Analyses Wing or RAW for his defeat in the 2015 elections.
