Sri Lanka Continues Without Functional Government

Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal on Monday issued an interim order restraining Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Cabinet of the purported government from functioning until the petition is heard on 12th December. Two judge-bench of Chairman of the Appeals Court Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Arjun Obeysekera issued the verdict after considering submissions on the Quo Warranto Writ filed by 122 Members of Parliament, challenging the authority of Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold office as Prime Minister. The court has issued notices to respondents to appear before the court on 12 December 2018. In issuing the interim order, the Court said irreversible damage could be caused if persons not entitled to do so sit as prime minister and cabinet of Ministers.........................
