Heavy floods in Northern districts of Sri Lanka displace thousands, reservoirs overflow

Thousands of people have been displaced as a result of torrential rains in Northern districts of Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) reported.According to the latest report released by the Disaster Management Center, 5,775 persons of 1,829 families have been moved to 40 disaster camps in the three districts of the Northern Province while 9,161 people from 2,788 families have been affected by the floods.The travel on A-9 main highway linking south to north has been disrupted as the levee of Mankulam reservoir in Kilinochchi breached due to the heavy rain the area received last night................
