Post Polls Winds Favour Marginal Majority for Mr Khan in Pakistan

While having emerged as the largest party after the 25 July elections to the National Assembly, Mr Imran Khan and his party the Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI) was faced with a significant challenge of making up the balance in numbers for the crucial vote electing the former cricket captain as the Prime Minister. A united opposition fielded comprising of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Majlis–e–Amal (MMA) have 119 seats in the National Assembly three or four (there continues to be some confusion on whether Mr Khan has won 115 or 116 seats) more than the PTI. However the opposition attempt to create a post-poll alliance has received a setback. In the provincial assembly of Punjab where the PML N has won more seats than the PTI too, Shahbaz Sharif has not been able  to muster adequate numbers in terms of attracting the 29 Independents to achieve a majority and the 6 MNAs of the PPP are not enough for him to stake claims to form the provincial government...........
