Pakistan Reduces Cost for China-Funded Rail Project

Construction work is in progress at a new international trade route which part of a sprawling Chinese initiative to build a "new Silk Road" of ports, railways, and roads to expand trade in a vast arc of countries across Asia, Africa and Europe, near Havalia. Pakistan announced Monday a reduced estimated cost for revamping of the country’s nearly 1,900-kilometer colonial-era railway line under an ongoing bilateral economic development mega project funded by China. The upgrade to “standard gauge” of what is known as the Main Line-1 (ML-1), which connects the southern port city of Karachi to the northwestern city of Peshawar, was originally priced at $8.2 billion, Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed said.......................
