Pakistan Likely to Continue Jadhav's Trial by Military Court

Despite the strong denunciation of the process of justice of Pakistan in dealing with the case of retired Indian Cmde Kulbhushan Jadhav facing the death sentence awarded by a military court martial, the mood in Islamabad was that of triumphalism. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was one of the first to declare victory claiming,  “Commander Jadhav shall remain in Pakistan. He shall be treated in accordance with the laws of Pakistan. This is a victory for Pakistan”. No mention was made of strong condemnation of the Pakistani judicial process by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by an overwhelming majority of 15:1 the lone dissident being the honourable judge representing Pakistan. To outline briefly the Remedies granted to India were as follows:- “Pakistan under obligation to cease internationally wrongful acts of a continuing character — Mr. Jadhav to be informed without further delay of his rights — Indian consular officers to be given access to him and be allowed to arrange for his legal representation..........
