In the ordinary course, national and provincial council elections in Pakistan are due on 15 July, despite some concerns that delay in the delimitation of constituencies may lead to postponement of polls. Hectic politicking has begun, and the principal parties were in election mode in what was seen a dress rehearsal during the Senate elections held in March. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) was expected to gain a majority in the Senate, thus consolidating control over the country’s parliament having hold of the National Assembly after the 2013 elections. However, disqualification of then Party President Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court revoking all decisions taken by him after the date he was removed as the Prime Minister for not being, “sadiq and amen,” or in plain words honest and truthful meant that the nominees had to contest as independents......................
