OSINT Report: Pakistan’s Extension of Deterrence and A2AD Strategy

Recent tests and firing carried out by Pakistan of cruise missiles denotes an extension of deterrence while providing additional cushion to the Sindh coastline replicating the Anti-Access, Area Denial (A2AD) strategy so successfully practiced by China off its eastern coast abutting the South China Sea. An attempt to achieve a second strike capability is also evident which in nuclear parlance implies the ability to survive, “massive retaliation,” and undertake a counter strike. On 14 April the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations of Pakistan commonly referred to as the DGISPR stated that Pakistan conducted a successful test of an enhanced range version of the indigenously developed Babur Cruise Missile.  Babur Weapon System-1 (B) incorporates advanced aerodynamics and avionics that can strike targets both at land and sea with high accuracy, at a range of 700 kilometres. It is a low flying, terrain hugging missile, which also carries specific stealth features and is capable of taking various types of warheads.......................
