WestAsia (Middle East) Geo-economically Significant, Geopolitically Risky

West Asia (Middle East) is passing through a turbulentphase due to a number of factors with the US Iran Contestations being a primarytrigger for escalation at present which has led to multiple challenges –security, economy and energy.

The region has a number of hot spots many ofwhich continue to simmer despite efforts to resolve the violent conflicts be itin Syria, Iraq, Persian Gulf, Yemen, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine,  led to increase in instability as Iran vowed toprevent export of oil and gas by other major powers. The spiral resulted inattacks on tankers, oil terminals and downing of a US drone by Iran.

In otherareas such as Yemen, International Crisis Group states that there was a briefmoment of optimism in the conflict in Yemen as "the country’s warringfactions agreed on steps to prevent a battle for the port city of Hodeida thatwould have cut off desperately needed aid", latest attack on Saudi Aramco facilities on 14February, there are further concerns over imports from the region even as Iranhas vowed that in case it is not permitted to export oil by the United States,no other county will also be allowed to do so...........................
