Ultra Conservative Parliament Increases Risk of US Iran War

Iran’s structured parliamentary elections on 21 February delivered the expected outcome – a landslide victory for the country’s Principlists most ultra-conservatives and loyalists of the Supreme Authority Ayatollah Khamanei.

The elections were structured as reformists and pragmatists, or centrist candidates were not approved to participate in the polls by the Guardian’s Council which is controlled by the loyalists of the Supreme Authority Ayatollah Khamanei.

Khamanei has been irked with the realist and reformist lobbies which have held sway in the parliament in the past four years boosting up Iran’s quasi liberal President Hassan Rouhani and the Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. The two are at the forefront in the political and economic openings to the West a landmark of which was the 2015 nuclear deal......................
