Review of #ChennaiConnect – India China Second Informal Summit

The Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and the President of the People's Republic of China Mr Xi Jinping held their Second Informal Summit in Chennai, India, on 11-12 October 2019 which was dubbed as #Chennai Connect by India.

Progress on the outstanding issues was not anticipated, the Summit assumes importance due to sustenance of communications between the top leaders thereby providing strategic direction to the relationship which will be forward looking.

While differences between India and China are not likely to go away soon, these are unlikely to spiral into disputes with mechanisms for resolution existing such as for the boundary issue and trade was reinforced at #ChennaiConnect

The concept of an informal summit unlike a formal one which has an agenda and a joint statement issued thereafter summarising the gains made, is essentially for the top leaders to underline their commitment to stability in engagement despite the differences. Thus those who expected major breakthroughs were certainly disappointed..........................
