OSINT Report: Denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula: A Win Win for China

As North and South Korea move towards what is seen as a detente that for the time being at least is defying long term sceptics, many are questioning how China’s views of the developments which seem to have sidelined Beijing with the two Korea’s and North – US Summit taking place without the guiding hand of China’s leadership. China has been frequently accused of playing spoil-sport in putting pressure on North Korea be it by diluting the provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions placing sanctions on a recalcitrant Pyongyang or not carrying out the same as faithfully as is desired. There is of course a distinct shift in the approach by China towards North Korean sanctions with considerably efforts for enforcement, one reason by Kim Jong-un has agreed for talks with the South and the United States..................North and South Korea detente may or may not lead to denuclearisation; either way is advantage China without having spent too much diplomatic capital................
