Multiple Stakeholders Underline Complexity in Fifth Round of Geneva Talks on Syria

The fifth round of Geneva talks on Syria is seeing proximate talks between the warring parties and the UN nominated interlocutors with hopes of direct engagement presently distant. Staffan de Mistura, UN Special Envoy for Syria, outlined the progress of talks at the beginning in a widely attended Conference in Geneva on 24 March.  Proximity talks are being held with the UN interlocutors by the stakeholders, “Proximity talks, in other words, they are talking to us, to me to my colleagues and then I can use it when we will be addressing the subject on the other side that is the strength of proximity talks,” Mistura said.
