Iran Plays Down Rocket Attacks on Tankers, as Sit Worsens in West Asia

Tehran Times reported two explosions possibly by missile attacks on an Iranian oil tanker operated by the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) near the Saudi port city of Jeddah. NITC said the explosions took place some 60 miles from Jeddah early 11 October. The explosions hit the vessel’s hull, causing heavy damages to the ship’s two main tanks, which resulted in an oil spill in the Red Sea.  The statement by the NITC said the tanker, named Sabiti, was hit by two separate explosions at 5:00 and 5:20 am. The spill is currently stopped, according to officials as quoted by the Tehran Times.

The missiles hit the right side of the tanker’s hull, creating holes measuring 50-to-150 centimeters. The NITC said the tanker is heading toward the Persian Gulf with a low speed. They believe it was a "terrorist attack", unnamed sourced told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA)..........................
