How is South Asia Tackling COVID 19 Challenge?

COVID 19, commonly known as Corona Virus, has impacted South Asia as much as it has done other parts of the World. The intensity, however, has been resitrcted due to factors varying from limited international and trans-border movements and measures taken such as travel restrictions. These were implemented on the occurrence of the outbreak in China and other parts of the World. Preliminary testing and preparation of isolation facilities were the other actions.

As of 21 March, the number of cases in the region has been identified at 315 in India, in Afghanistan 449, Bangladesh 24, Bhutan 2, Maldives 23, Myanmar 175, Nepal 1, Pakistan 640 and Sri Lanka 77. These are considered to be low by many observers who are attributing these numbers to lack of adequate secondary testing amongst other factors.

The low number of fatalities is at below ten on 21 March is heartening.

A look at the measures undertaken by various states is called for while an assessment of what will happen ahead generically given the multiple uncertainties is best avoided for now. Here is a review.......................
