COVID 19 – Health Emergencies Emerge as the Greatest Challenge to the Global Economy

The globalized economy with a supply chain spread over multiple countries, global health emergencies which could manifest into pandemics have emerged as the main challenge.

This would be the foremost lesson from the current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that was first reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019.

As with other respiratory illnesses, infection with 2019-nCoV can cause mild symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever.  It can be more severe for some persons and can lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties.  More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as, diabetes and heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.

As on 12 February the World Health Organisation has recorded a 1114 deaths due to COVID 19 mainly in China except for one in the Philippines............................
