Asian Majors India China Engage in COVID 19 Diplomacy

Even as the United States and China are engaged in an ugly diplomatic spat over issues related to COVID 19, which by some estimates may increase in intensity, in Asia major global and regional players are engaged in strengthening relations with partners.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated a video summit on COVID 19 with members of the regional grouping SAARC which was held on 15 March a first for the troubled grouping with no signs of revival.

India has also reportedly initiated a move for a similar video summit of G 20 leaders with Saudi Arabia.

India has so far remained below the community spread of the corona virus with a general national lockout with flights and visitors blocked from almost all countries including overseas Indian citizens.

China having reversed the corona virus challenge in the past month and a half in the meanwhile has tagged key partners hosting Presidents of Pakistan and Mongolia.

Other major powers in the Asia Pacific or Indo Pacific – Japan, South Korea, ASEAN are presently engaged in combating the spread of the virus and are thus staying away from a major diplomatic move.......................
