OSINT Report China Breaks India’s Network Connectivity Monopoly with Nepal

Commercial operation of an optical fiber link between China and Nepal was inaugurated by Minister for Information and Communications, Mohan Bahadur Basnet at a ceremony held in Kathmandu. The project for laying direct communication links has been in the offing since 2003, but now that the same has fructified into reality, the significance of the same has been recognized in Nepal as well as India. This will effectively break monopoly of connectivity and services links that India has with Nepal.  Earlier Nepal was provided with connectivity by Indian through optical fiber links at Bhairahawa, Birgunj and Biratnagar. Nepal and China are also proposing to establish railway, oil and gas pipelines and highway linkages.
