Nepal Army in UN Peacekeeping

The NA has contributed to 42 UN peacekeeping missions, in which over 114,818 personnel have already participated. The first Nepali contingent, Purano Gorakh Battalion, was deployed in United Nations Emergency Force–II in Sinai, Egypt in 1974. The ground reality was so volatile that the UN had to use this mission within 24 hours of Security Council resolution. Nepal deployed its personnel when many troop-contributing countries (TCCs) hesitated. Since then, Nepal has been an active contributor to complex UN peacekeeping missions, contributing senior officials to UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), mobile force reserves, engineers, de-miners, medical personnel, military police, legal advisors, etc.
