Police step up vigil and search operations in Kerala Exchange of firing took place in the forest tracts of Vellamunda in Wayanad district of North Keral on Sunday, December 8 between the police and suspected Maoist. In the aftermath of the incident Kerala’s special police force, Thunderbolt, assisted by local police have intensified the search operations in the forest region of the state.  In a report by Indian Express December 8, police forces in the forest belt along Kozhikode and Kannur districts were also engaged in the combing operations. Police sources in the media reports claimed that Maoists had fired at the police while they were on a routine combing operation Locals and village youth have also reported that there were gunshots from neighbouring forest ....
