LWE – Acquisition of Drones, Sniper Rifles by Naxals Raises Alarm

While there has been a general reduction in the area under the control of the Left Wing Extremists also known as Naxals and Maoists, there are concerns over expanding nature of their capabilities with drones and acquisition of sniper rifles flagged in various media reports. This is likely to pose a major challenge to the security forces operating in Central India.

 In a recent review of the Naxal threat, Home Minister Amit Shah has sought decisive action against the rebels. The situation in the Maoist affected states and measures being taken for improving the infrastructure of the camps and measures against improvised explosive devices were also discussed.  The Home Minister directed the CRPF to carry out an effective and decisive campaign against Left Wing Extremism in the next six months.  The campaigning season extends during the winters and goes on till the monsoon thus the security forces are hoping for a decisive edge during this period yet the operational capabilities of the Naxals may prove a challenge...................
