Jharkhand : Left Wing Extremism Trends and Projections

While LWE presence has been contained in Jharkhand, the expanse in 13 districts which are most affected, favourable terrain and organisation denotes the menace will continue.Jharkhand is regarded as the second most state affected by Left Wing Extremist violence after Chhattisgarh. Currently 30 districts in seven states in India are most affected by Left Wing Extremist (LWE) violence. In terms of the districts affected, Jharkhand has the maximum numbers at 13. These districts include Bokaro, Chatra, Garhwa, Giridih, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Latehar, Lohardaga, Palamu, Ranchi, Simdega and West Singhbhum. These districts are in receipt of Security Related Expenditure (SRE) a scheme that provides funds to compensate states for combating insurgency that is operated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
