U Shwe Mann submits application to compete in general election The chairman of Myanmar's ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) U Shwe Mann on Thursday submitted his application at the Taungoo District Election Commission to compete in the forthcoming multi-party general election scheduled for 8 November, according to his social media website Xinhua reported on 30 July. The submission followed his recent announcement to run in his native Phyu township constituency of Bago Region. U Shwe Mann, also speaker of Myanmar's House of Representatives and Union Parliament, won the 2010 multi-party general election for Zeyarthiri township constituency in Nay Pyi Taw as a representative to the House of Representatives (Lower House).
