Suu Kyi Appeal Falls Short of Expectations of International Media, Rights Groups

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanamr’s State Counsellor and Nobel laureate made her much awaited speech on the Myanmar government’s efforts with regards to reconciliation and peace in Nay Pyi Taw on 19 September. Coming against a backdrop of crisis in Rakhine State the Speech was keenly listened to across the World and despite President Donald Trump making his maiden appearance in the UN General Assembly received a fair share of media attention. The global agencies media and human rights were not satisfied.  The New York Times, accused her of, “parroting of the language of the generals who locked her up for the better part of two decades.”  --------------------------It was not expected that Suu Kyi would come clean on these issues, but her ignoring of the facts and stating that the government was still assessing the cause for the incidents appeared to have been the most galling and thus invited maximum reproof.
