Myanmar-China oil pipeline opens A pipeline transporting oil from Myanmar’s coast through to Yunnan, China has been inaugurated in a trial operation, according to Xinhua on January 28.The operation began on January 28 and is Beijing’s latest effort to diversify energy import sources into the world’s second-largest economy.The opening ceremony for the 478-mile [771-kilometre] pipeline was attended by Myanmar’s Vice President U Nyan Tun, and Mr Liao Yongyuan, the general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation or CNPC.The pipeline links southern China to a port in western Myanmar in a move that decreases China’s reliance on oil being transported on a longer and more costly route through the Strait of Malacca.The CNPC in cooperation with Myanma Oil and G...
