Myanmar - Internal, International and Economic Challenges Likely to Increase

Human Rights Council resolution 34/22 established an independent international fact-finding mission (Mission) on Myanmar. Marzuki Darusman from Indonesia was appointed as chairperson and Radhika Coomaraswamy (Sri Lanka) and Christopher Sidoti (Australia) as members. The independent international fact finding mission has submitted main findings stated, “gross human rights violations and abuses committed in Kachin, Rakhine and Shan States are shocking for their horrifying nature and ubiquity.” In the recommendations on Myanmar the Mission has called for, “use all diplomatic, humanitarian and other peaceful means to assist Myanmar in meeting its responsibility to protect its people from genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes”............There could be impact of the Report in three key areas on stability in Myanmar as the possibility of the Tatmadaw (Army) accepting the injunctions in the spirit of correctives appear low for now..........................
