KIA establishes new brigade in northern Shan State The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has established, on 26 February,a new 6th Brigade in Mongbaw, Mongkoe and Phaunghsai, which were previously controlled by the Burmese Communist Party (BCP) in northern Shan State, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 1 March. The Union Peacemaking Working Committee (UPWC) denounced the move in an announcement yesterday warning that the extended establishment will have a negative effect on the government’s peace process. The formation comes while the government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is implementing a nationwide peace process, which is intended to ensure national reconciliation and national development and bring an end to armed conflicts, the announcement said. - See more ...
