Success of Army’s Leadership Decapacitation Strategy in Kashmir

In June this year the Indian Army released a "hit list" of 12 top terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. The Times of India indicated that the Army would target these leaders in what could be seen as a focused leadership decapacitation strategy. The success of this strategy is evident with the killing of LeT leader Abu Dujana who was first on the list on 01 August in Pulwama where he had come into a building complex to meet his wife. Security forces however faltered in glamorising the terrorist leader by exposing transcripts of a conversation with him by a security forces commander asking him to surrender. Abu Dujan attempted to portray himself to be a martyr fighting for a just cause even though he was a plain mercenary from Gilgit Baltistan recruited by the Lashkar E Taiyyaba to fight their dirty proxy war in Kashmir.
