Ramazan-Amarnath Truce: Giving Peace a Chance in Kashmir

In a significant development on 09 May, an all-party meeting convened in Srinagar called for a truce for the Ramazan and Amarnath Pilgrimage occurring in the next two months. Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti declared that parties were of unanimous in proposing a unilateral ceasefire. “Everyone agreed that we must appeal Government of India that they should consider a unilateral ceasefire like Vajpayee Ji did in 2000,” Mufti, flanked by deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta, told reporters as per  Greater Kashmir. “The government of India should think about it so that common man can heave a sigh of relief.” Ramadhan will start on 15 May and will be till 16 June with likely change based on the occurrence of the moon. The Amarnath pilgrimage this year is scheduled between June 28 and August 26................... Will the central government which has to take the final call bite the truce bullet remains to be seen?
