OSINT Report: J & K - Alliance Break Up Setback to Political Process

The alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir was seen by many as an arrangement to assume power in the State after elections for the assembly in December 2014 resulted in a hung verdict. While an Agenda of Alliance was the bedrock of the whole arrangement, the different requirements of what some say soft separatism of the PDP and the muscular approach of the BJP meant that a break up was inevitable. That this could happen so suddenly on 19 June when there was hope of political engagement after years of discord and violence on the streets in Srinagar and South Kashmir appears tragic. The reasons for the end of the alliance would be debated for months to come, but the same has left the people of Kashmir with another period of political uncertainty where the resolution of the vexed issue is further pushed back by months if not years. .....................
