OSIINT Report: Will the Ramadan-Amarnath Truce Work in Kashmir?

On 09 May at an all-party meeting in Srinagar, Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti declared that parties were of unanimous in proposing a unilateral ceasefire. “Everyone agreed that we must appeal Government of India that they should consider a unilateral ceasefire like Vajpayee Ji did in 2000,” Mufti, flanked by deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta, told reporters as per  Greater Kashmir. “The government of India should think about it so that common man can heave a sigh of relief.” Ramadhan will start on 15 May and will be till 16 June with likely change based on the occurrence of the moon. The Amarnath pilgrimage this year is scheduled between June 28 and August 26. The truce proposed was based on the model adopted in November 2000, under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpaye  when the cease-fire was extended from November to May 23, 2001. Talks were held in the interim with the terrorist groups while the inclusion of Pakistan in the negotiations proved to be a deal breaker. Will the Truce be acceptable to the Central Government and will the proposal be taken up in earnest remains a question mark. Even if the same is agreed upon will the same work remains to be seen?.................................
