Regional Security Alert Spike in Piracy in Gulf of Aden

Recent reports indicate a spike in piracy in Gulf of Aden. Ministry of Defence Government of India in a press release indicated that an Indian registered dhow ‘Al-Kausar’ was hijacked off the island of Socotra on 01 Apr 17. The vessel was taken to the port of Hobyo, on the eastern coast of Somalia and the 10 crew members were captured and held by pirates. In another incident in a distress call received from a foreign merchant vessel MV OS 35 (Tuvalu registered vessel), which was attacked and boarded by pirates in the Gulf of Aden late night on 08 April.  Live Piracy & Armed Robbery Report 2017 for the Month of April denotes at least three such attacks in April in the Gulf of Aden and off Somalia as summarised below.  ...........Members Log in or Subscribe to Read more------------
