OSINT Report Maldives – President Yameen Digs in Prolonged Crisis Anticipated

The Maldives which has been going through long years of political travails saw a new crisis building up as on 01 February the Supreme Court ruled that the trials of former President Mohammad Nasheed and several other opposition leaders were, "questionable and politically motivated  (and) nature of the trials of the political leaders warrant a retrial". These leaders had been jailed on various charges but mainly related to terrorism and were seen as bitter opponents of President Yameen. The court also reinstated the 12 MPs previously stripped of their seats. This will give the opposition a majority in the parliament, which has the power to impeach President Abdulla Yameen. The police tweeted that they had decided to follow the Supreme Court ruling after seeking legal advice and had started work to enforce it.---------------------------
