Policy Brief: India Pakistan Relations, First Get the Diplomatic Protocol Right

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan speaking on Indo Pakistan relations began on a positive note stating that if India takes one step, Pakistan will take two. This raised hopes in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mr Khan on telephone for his Party, the Tehreek Insaaf Pakistan (PTI) emerging as the largest party in the elections in the country held on 25 July. This was followed by a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Khan on his assumption of office on 18 August.Pakistan’s rhetorical and diplomatic response to these – two steps has been unsatisfactory to say the least and Prime Minister Khan needs to take note if he is sincere in his initial statement of doubling efforts for reaching out to India.......................
