Nepal Government Focuses on Border Security with India, China

Nepal Government is planning to increase the Border Observation Posts (BOP) on the India and Nepal border. Nepal has 2,926 kms land border with China it is 1,236 km and in India 1,690 km.The border with India is open under the Indo Nepal Treaty of 1950 which is presently under review and revision. 21 districts bordering with India have minimum one to maximum eight BOPs. Each BOP is manned by at least 35 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel. On the Indian border the BOPs will be increased to 125, up from existing 87. Nepal shares a border of over 1850 km with five Indian states – Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.The India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1950 forms the bedrock of the special relations that exist between India and Nepal. Nepalese citizens avail facilities and opportunities on par with Indian citizens in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty. Nearly 6 million Nepalese citizens live and work in India.......................
