Nagrota – Rewind to Uri – Lessons for Army in Base Security

Seven soldiers, including two army officers, and six militants were killed in twin attacks in Jammu region on 29 November once again exposing vulnerabilities in the depth areas as well as on the International Border. This required the highest alert in Jammu and Kashmir including in areas which are relatively in depth as Nagrota which was one of the likely targets for a terrorist strike. The terrorists would have obviously found key establishments as the Corps HQ heavily guarded and thus struck at the officer's mess of an artillery unit. Media reports indicate that basic security measures were lacking and militants could infiltrate with ease and holed up inside the quarters. Prompt action by Para Commandos averted a major tragedy. what lessons can be learnt from this tragic episode
