India Pakistan rapprochement in opening the Kartarpur corridor is welcome, yet this may remain a one off initiative without substantially contributing to peace and tranquillity in the Sub Continent. The game theory model of Prisoners Dilemma provides a relevant explanation of both the Kartarpur opening and the likely lack of progress in peace between India and Pakistan, here is how-Firstly the Prisoners Dilemma in its simplest format reveals that two members of a criminal gang in a prison who are unable to communicate with each other are offered a bargain by the prosecution. In case they both cooperate there is mutual benefit as opposed to one betraying the other or both betraying each other. When applied to peace between states, say India and Pakistan this would reveal that in case the two cooperate there is maximum benefit, but in case both do not then there is a major loss to both sides. On the other hand if only one side decides to cooperate and the other refuses both will bear proportionate loss.............
