Has the Second Global Terror Wave Made an Entry in South Asia? Updated

South Asia has been relatively immune to vestiges of global terror even though the tribal belt of Af Pak has seen more violence in the past few decades than perhaps any other part of the World.  However the core of terrorism was driven by  local factors – extremist religious ideology that emanated from the Deoband school espoused by the Taliban and its cohorts in the tribal belt. It had ethnic dimensions and while the al Qaeda made Afghanistan a hub in heyday of the terrorist group, the activities were not at the scale witnessed in other parts of the World. al Qaeda attempted forays in Jammu and Kashmir but had relatively limited impact as compared to the internal groups in the region ranging from the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Tehreek Taliban Pakistan [TTP] in Pakistan, Lashkar e Taiyyaba and Jaish e Mohammad based in Pakistan, Left Wing Extremists in India or the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Ealam in Sri Lanka. The national and regional groups have had a larger impact than those from outside the region................
