India's security managers delayed demilitarization in Jammu and Kashmir despite continued appeals by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah including selective removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) on the premise that the security situation in the region is likely to deteriorate post 2014 due to the pull out of foreign troops from Afghanistan. This appreciation is sound but did not justify resisting selective removal of AFSPA, a politico-military initiative that would have paid rich dividends in Kashmir.
