North East Large Sections Protest Introduction of CAB, mixed reaction to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the North East in India given the sensitivity of the issue for the people of the region who have been facing challenges of outside infiltration and preservation of identity for the past many decades,

Whereas the decision not to settle the refugees in the areas which fall under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) has been welcomed there has been an adverse reaction to exclusion of other areas particularly in Assam and Tripura.

Special permits are required to enter ILP nominated areas which is in force in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland. Manipur is also proposed to be included in the ILP in the coming days.

The new legislation would not be applied in the 10 Tribal Autonomous District Council (TADC) areas of Assam (3 TADC), Meghalaya (3), Mizoram (3) and Tripura (one). The TADCs are constituted under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution as per the Indian Express........................................
