Militants claim 195 civilian lives in Assam Militants killed 195 civilians and four police personnel in Assam during 2014 though the number of active militant organisations has come down to eight in the state after many of the militant groups had opted for ceasefire or peace talks with the government. Tabling this information in Assam Assembly on Monday, senior cabinet minister Rakibul Hussain informed that the next of the kin of police personnel killed by militants are given Rs 20 lakh each as a one-time grant while one of the family members of the slain police personnel is provided government employment and other assistance as required is given by the state government.
