Manipur: The Politics of Blockade     Mysteriously after the Autonomous Districts Council (ADC) elections in Manipur, the over two month’s blockade ended in Manipur.  The ruling Congress party swept the ADC polls. The Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) won 107 of the 144 seats held in the polls in two phases on May 26 and June 2 with re-polls in some polling stations in the later part. By holding the ADC elections despite wide spread protests and blockade by the Naga groups such as the Naga Students Federation and the ANSAM and getting maximum number of Congressmen from the districts in power in these institutions the Manipur government managed to make political capital from what was a nasty situation over the past couple of months. ...
