Indian opposition party slams plan to buy Myanmar rice The Mizo National Front in northeast India has attacked the local Congress Party government for its plans to buy rice from Myanmar, facilitated by the extension to the Silchar-Lumding railway line, according to a report from on December 11.The localised Indian opposition party based in Mizoram, bordering Myanmar, is angry that the local government is seeking to import rice, when the country has excess stocks, and is upset they plan to raise the cost of rice from 3 Rupees (K50) per kilo to 5.5 Rupees from January next year, according to the report.The party, which has its roots in famine alleviation back in the early 1960, says the plan will prove an “additional burden on the poor.”India’s “Look Eas...
