In November 2017 Nagaland and Manipur of India’s North East with ongoing indigenous peoples Self Determination movement witnessed extension of Disturbed Area, precondition for promulgation of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act, AFSPA 1958 permitting suspension of non derogable rights, like Right to Life, Right to Justice Remedy etc, While Government of Nagaland tendered objection to extension of Disturbed Area tag by Government of India, Government of Manipur voluntary extended Disturbed Area tag for period of one year with effect from 1 December 2017, Under this Act Indian armed forces conferred unrestricted and unaccountable power to carry out operations once area declared as disturbed area,extension of controversial piece of legislation AFSPA 1958 becomes regular feature since its phased application in two States since inception of the act in 1958. …………….Please Log in or Subscribe to view full details…..
