Agenda for Visit of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wajed to New Delhi

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit comes almost immediately after 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) thus there has been a preliminary meeting of sorts to set the stage for the visit which is long anticipated. Some of the issues that are likely to be on the table are River Water Sharing particularly the Teesta which Bangladesh is desirable of obtaining a fair share.

The National Register of Citizenship in Assam which has created concerns in Bangladesh of having to accept a portion of those who doe not find themselves in the register, trade, transit and development issues are also likely to be on the agenda particularly the progress of Agartala- Akhaura rail link.

Defence Cooperation may also be a major facet with the stage having been set by the visit of the Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh to Bangladesh recently.

Bangladesh has expressed apprehensions over the non-inclusion of large numbers in the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in Assam. The NRC India has explained is an internal process and does not involve external actors............
