Signal of Continuity with Mr Rajnath Singh at Helm Augurs Well for MOD

With a budget of over Rs 4 Lakh Crore including defence pensions ($ 58 Billion) accounting for 16 to 18 Percent of the expenditure of the government, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is perhaps the most crucial portfolio after the Prime Minister. The complex defence and security challenges that India faces requires capable handling of the ministry by a senior and experienced cabinet minister. Modi 1.0 had raised many hopes of fillip to what many contend was a lethargic ministry of defence which remains debatable. Never the less much was expected with the Prime Minister Mr Modi's core agenda focus on programmes such as Make in India in defence and defence management reforms. These did not materialise to the extent desired by those who are well in the know of developments.......................Thankfully with the nomination of Mr Rajnath Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated that he is serious on defence in the second term of NDA government.
